Germany has entered the Euro Cup 2016 semifinals after defeating Italy in an epic penalty shootout. Both teams were head to head with 1 goals each after injury time and proceeded to penalty shootout over which Germany won over Italy with 6-5.

The first half of the game ended with both teams unable to score any goals. During the 20th minute of the second half Mesut Ozil scored a goal against Italy to which it was equalized by Leonardo Bonuki during the 78th minute. Bonuki had seized the opportunity to score during a penalty offered to Italy after Jerome Boateng had conceded a handball.

Although Germany’s ball possession was 62%, they were unable to make further goals. Both teams after regular and injury time had a total 98 shots on target. Germany’s Thomas Muller, Mesut Ozil, Bastian Swans had missed their shot during the game. Similarly Italy’s Matteo Darmien, Simone Zaza, Graziano Pelle were unable to score in the tiebreaker.

Tonight Germany will go against the winner of the last quarterfinal. France and Iceland will be competing against to vow for the place in the semifinals.
